On February 15, the room Ramón y Cajal held the closing ceremony of the second edition of the course Com construir relacions socioafectives sanes? Cuidaʼt, cuida -organized by the Equality Unit of the University, in collaboration with Equality commissions from the different centers, and the support of Barcelona City Council. This is the second year this initiative takes place, and it aims to provide students with the right tools to develop their affective-sexual relationships in a healthy way. This year, sixty students have taken part in the course.

“This edition of the course is the follow-up of a work line that started years ago in the Equality Commissions and the Equality Unit. Its main aim is to create a place for the students to train them, share and reflect on how to think and have healthy affective-sexual relationships. This activity aims to be diverse and closer to what we live rather than a speech which can be far from the affective reality”, says the director of the Equality Unit, Antonio Madrid.

The course, which took place in November, was divided into two parts. The first one covered three training sessions. In the second part, they promoted a photography contest through Twitter. “When we talk about healthy affective-sexual relationships, we mean taking care of ourselves and taking care of our relationships, free of violence and sexism. Relationships based on respect, own freedom and people with whom we live with. Once you touch on these topics, many people have doubts, questions… everything has been commented on in this course”, adds Antonio Madrid.

Action, Maite Vilalta. During the activity, the writer and activist Brigitte Vasallo offered a lecture. The awards for the Twitter contest were also given. “Quan comencem a cuidar més de nosaltres mateixes i deixem de sobreposar als demés, serà quan aconseguirem tot allò que desitgem”, by Cristina Domingo, student of English Studies, was the winner tweet. Two other awards were given to the tweets published by the students Aida Palacios, student of Law (“No hi ha una manera de ser dona. Totes vivim, sentim, estimem i gaudim la vida com ens plau, i amb qui ens plau. Les dones no hem nascut per ser esclaves de morals, estigmes, societats ni estereotips. Hem nascut per ser lliures i amb vides dignes”), and María Sepúlveda, student of Medicine (“El amor nunca entendió de género, forma, color, modas, estética, capacidades o discapacidades… ¿Por qué complicar, oscurecer, juzgar y limitar algo tan perfecto como el sentir y demostrar eso por alguien y recibirlo?”).

With this initiative, the UB aims to raise awareness among the university community on the role of the university as a key agent so that youngsters build, together with their own professional project, a personal project formed up by a network of healthy relationships.
