During the upcoming days, the organization will select -among the finalists- the students to represent the UB in the 13th Vives Network League of University Debate, to be held from April 16 to April 19 at the University Miguel Hernández in Elx, where they will compete with the other universities from the Catalan-speaking areas.

The UB Internal League of Debate

The Debating Association of the University of Barcelona (ADUB) and the Vice-Rectorʼs Office of Students and Language Policy, with the support of the Student Support Services, have organized the Internal League of Debate for twelve years. This is a fun and educational competition in which some teams, formed by university students from the several degrees of the UB, and which are led by a captain, face, in accordance to the calendar of the competition, a set of debates on a topic which is proposed by the organization. Practicing a debate allows students to improve public speaking and rhetoric, it gives them confidence when speaking in public and provides them with tools to use the language. The debate also allows them to acquire mediation strategies and negotiation techniques and conflict resolution. Everything makes this activity -which is given an ECTS credit- to have a high educational potential.

For the second year in a row, in the framework of this league, the Tournament of Speeches of the University of Barcelona was held, and this year was also available for members of debating associations from other universities of Barcelona. The winner was Anna Vilà (UAB student) with a speech on the topic titled “Life without music would be a mistake”.
