Belén Guàrner Bañares, student of Modern Languages and Literature at the University of Barcelona, has been awarded as best speaker in the 13rd League of Debate of the Vives University Network, held from April 16 to 19 in the Miguel Hernández University (UMH, Elche). The team of the UB, also formed by the students Gonzalo Guàrner Bañares and Adrià Hernàndez i Pineda (students of Physics), was awarded as the best team by the other participants in the competition, which is the most important one held in southern Europe.

Belén Guàrner Bañares, student of Modern Languages and Literature at the University of Barcelona, has been awarded as best speaker in the 13rd League of Debate of the Vives University Network, held from April 16 to 19 in the Miguel Hernández University (UMH, Elche). The team of the UB, also formed by the students Gonzalo Guàrner Bañares and Adrià Hernàndez i Pineda (students of Physics), was awarded as the best team by the other participants in the competition, which is the most important one held in southern Europe.

“Is the West responsible for the emergence of the Islamic State?” was the topic to be debated on by the teams, coming from sixteen universities from Catalonia, Valencia, Balearic Islands and Andorra. Ramon Llull University and the University of Valencia competed in the finals, in which the University of Valencia won the competition.

The University Debate League is a training and dynamic competition in which university teams that are members of the Vives Network debate on a current topic. The activity provides a space for training where students learn to consolidate cross-sectional skills for their professional development, such as self-confidence, teamwork, creativity, information gathering, analysis, discourse construction, planning and decision-taking. Not only the richness of this competition but also the experience the participants gain, since the League creates a coexistence space for students of the Catalan speaking areas.
