Research groups from seven Catalan universities collaborate in the Inter-University Institute of Women’s Studies and Gender Research (iiEDG). The initiative to create an inter-university institute for all or most of the research groups working in women’s and gender studies arose at the beginning of the 1990s. The main aim was to recognise and institutionalize such studies in universities.
The participation of researchers from varied disciplines in the heart of the iiEDG promotes interdisciplinarity, which is essential to gender studies. The large team is made up of experts with extensive teaching experience and recognised research careers. It has received competitive funding for research projects from the Catalan government, the Spanish state and international bodies.
The iiEDG was created with the moral and financial support of the Catalan Institute of Women (ICD) and the Ministry of Innovation, Universities and Enterprise of the Catalan government (Generalitat de Catalunya).
