The Institute of Public Law (IDP) is a university centre that focuses on analysis and specialized research in relation to various aspects of public law, particularly constitutional and administrative law and other related areas.

The IDP first emerged in 1989, as a result of cooperation among a number of lecturers in the preparation of academic papers. It was officially founded in 1993 and moved to Barcelona Science Park in 2001. It was recognised by the University of Barcelona as a Special Research Centre in 2002. In addition to the specialization of its members, its capacity lies in collaboration with lecturers from other universities worldwide to undertake research and draw up reports that help to resolve existing problems and generally improve current legislation, on the basis of the democratic principle.
