Núria de Gispert

President of the Parliament of Catalonia

Núria de Gispert (Barcelona, 1949) is the first woman to chair the Parliament of Catalonia at a time of record parity: the chamber currently comprises 44% women; eight times that of the first legislature. Holder of a Law degree from the University of Barcelona and a sworn interpreter recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, de Gispert is a member of the Catalan political parties UDC, since 1986, and CiU. For the Catalan government (Generalitat de Catalunya) she has occupied numerous posts, including Minister of Justice (1995-2001), Minister of Government and Institutional Relations (2001-2002) and Minister for Justice and Home Affairs (2002-2003). She has been a Parliament member through legislatures VII-VIII (2003-2010) and has chaired the Committee on Justice, Law and Public Safety and the Committee on Institutional Affairs. Now, as well as the Catalan Chamber of Parliament, she chairs the Standing Committee, the Secret or Reserved Issues Committee and the Committee for Regulations.
