Joan Rodés (Barcelona, ​​1938) has had a long and productive professional career that has brought him international recognition. Inevitably, his name is associated with the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona, where he was director, and his knowledge and skills have contributed to extraordinary progress in Spain with regard to the treatment of liver diseases and the application of results from clinical research to patient care. Despite the many awards and honours he has received, for Joan the ultimate reward for a life dedicated to medicine is simply being involved in what he considers as "the most stimulating of the life sciences".
