Miquel Roca i Junyent

Miquel Roca i Junyent

Politician, lawyer and honorary president of UB Alumni

Miquel Roca Junyent (Caudéran, France, 1940) was active in political life during one of the most exciting stages of recent Spanish history, which included the transition from totalitarian regime to democracy, the drafting of a controversial Constitution, and a failed attempt to bridge the gap between two major political forces in constant confrontation. As a practicing lawyer his career has been significant enough to place his business among the most prestigious law firms in the country. He takes nothing for granted, firmly believing that every day is an opportunity to learn, that countries evolve, that nothing is set in stone, that symbols and dignity are not matters for negotiation, and that it is just as important to manage freedom as it ever was to fight for it.

Miquel holds a critical, calm and reasoned outlook of a determined and optimistic nature and is, he says, genetically disposed to reaching agreements. He admits to being a happy person, who whistles in the shower, but is also clearly capable of whistleblowing in more professional contexts too.
