Rafael Ribó

Ombudsman of Catalonia

Rafael Ribó i Massó was born in Barcelona in 1945.

He holds degrees in Economics and in Law as well as a doctorate in Political, Economic and Commercial Science from the UB. He has an MA in Political Science from The New School for Social Research in New York.

He served as secretary general of the Catalan political party PSUC from 1986 to 1997, and became leader of Initiative for Catalonia subsequently. He was elected to the parliament of Catalonia in the elections of 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1995, and he entered the Spanish parliament at the general elections of 1993. Since 17 June 2004, he has been Ombudsman of Catalonia.
