Dr Encarna Roca, UB university professor of Civil Law  and magistrate at the civil division of the Spanish Supreme Court, has become the first woman to be admitted to the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation. Each numerary member of the Academy occupies a seat carrying a numbered medal and Dr Roca will take number 39, formally held by Manuel Díez de Velasco. Her candidacy was presented to the Academy by the scholars García de Enterría, Menéndez Menéndez and López Vilas.
