On the occasion of the commemoration of the 575th anniversary of the University of Barcelona, the Elena Maseras i Ribera Awards for research on the UB are being held, with the aim of recognizing and promoting work that contributes to deepening understanding of its history, heritage and university community.

The awards are named after Elena Maseras i Ribera, the first woman to enter university in Spain —as a medical student at the UB, in 1872— and symbolize the commitment to research, equal opportunities and the historical memory of the institution.

The call is aimed at students at the University of Barcelona who have defended a final undergraduate thesis (TFG), a final master's thesis (TFM) or a doctoral thesis between the 2014-2015 and 2024-2025 academic years.

  • Works that address the history and reality of the UB from multiple perspectives are valued, such as institutional evolution, diversity, tangible and intangible heritage, relevant figures in the university community or teaching practices and academic rituals.
  • The prizes have a total financial award of €4,500, divided into three categories: 2,000 for doctoral theses, €1,500 for TFM and €1,000 for TFG.
  • The jury is made up of five members appointed by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research, with institutional and academic representation from various areas of knowledge.
  • The resolution is to be made public in the spring of 2026 and the award is expected to be presented at an institutional event within the commemorative program.
