Assumpció Català, the woman who loved the stars is an illustrated biography dedicated to the first woman who obtained a doctorate in Mathematics at the University of Barcelona and an essential figure in Catalan astronomy. The book, which has the support of the Catalan Women's Institute, combines the illustrations of Pilarín Bayés, recognized for her friendly and informative style, with the texts of the art historian Ramon Dilla.

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., the Catalan Assumption room of the Historical Building of the UB will host an act of tribute organized by the Ateneo UB. The event will feature the interventions of:

Dr. Ramon Dilla, Serra Húnter professor of the Department of Art History of the UB and author of the texts of the work, who will explain the details of the editorial process.

Dr. Josep M. Paredes, professor emeritus of the Department of Quantum Physics and Astrophysics, who will gloss the figure of the astronomer, of whom she was a companion in the Faculty.

Dr. Agustí Alcoberro, vice-rector for Culture, Memory and Heritage of the University of Barcelona.

During the process of creating the book, Pilarín Bayés produced several drawings that were finally left out of the edition. One of these unpublished originals portrays Catalan Assumption in his student days. As part of this event, Ms. Sònia Guerra López, Secretary General of the Department of Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat de Catalunya and President of the Catalan Women's Institute, will make the formal delivery of this illustration to the University of Barcelona so that it becomes part of its collection.
