V International Conference on Musical Heritage
The University of Barcelona is hosting the 5th International Conference on Musical Heritage, which this year is titled “The 19th Century: Commercialisation, Propaganda and Devotions in Music.” The conference will take place at the Faculty of Geography and History on 20, 21 and 22 May 2026, and forms part of the activities commemorating the University’s 575th anniversary.
Organized by: GEPAM research group + CSIC + ESMUC + CRAI Library Old Collection + Vice-Rectorate for Culture + Archbishopric of Barcelona + Barcelona Cathedral
The aim of this 5th Conference is to highlight the musical heritage of the 19th century and to propose a way of questioning, studying and understanding the past through visual and sound sources that can renew and broaden our understanding of 19th-century art and musical practices.
Considering the many dimensions of music in relation to social and cultural heritage (oral, written, sound, organological, iconographic, etc.), and seeking to apply the study of the past to present-day reality and its future projection, specialists from different fields have been invited to this 5th International Conference on Musical Heritage in order to address musical and artistic heritage from a cross-disciplinary and multidisciplinary perspective.
