The programme responds to the need to introduce and standardize the training of professionals to work in the field of community mental health. The use of community methods to address the complex reality of mental health, particularly in public health, is now the main trend worldwide, the model preferred by global health organizations, and the reality of healthcare in Spain and Catalonia.
However, the provision of community care services for mental health requires interdisciplinary teams and networks. Consequently, an academic programme is required that integrates the knowledge, competences, attitudes and experiences needed by graduates who wish to implement this method in their profession in the private sector or particularly in the public sector.
Therefore, this initiative makes a commitment to provide an academic and institutional framework to learn the theory, the technical competences, the methodological skills and the practical experiences required to specialize in mental health.
