At this time of unprecedented population movements and conflicts throughout Europe and the world, migration is happening everywhere and growing rapidly. In the context of forced migration in the Mediterranean, this course examines how culture and society affect the healthcare needs, health-related behaviours and quality of care of migrants, and focuses on the key role of integration, as migrants aim to live a healthy life, but it also addresses migrants' specific health needs. Communication skills are a primary focus of the course. The course places particular emphasis on the forced migration routes of the central, western and eastern Mediterranean, with lecturers and professionals with experience in primary care, chronic diseases, interpreter detection strategies and mental health and wellness in Spain, Italy, Greece and Turkey.
Students will acquire practical skills that allow them to contribute to a more integrated Europe and world.
