Aimed at those students or professionals interested in the conservation and welfare of primates, from an interdisciplinary and integrative perspective.
The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
- Understand the fundamentals of primate behaviour and evolution, analysing the ecological, social and biological factors that influence their behaviour and adaptation.
- To train students in the principles and applications of animal welfare in primates, addressing the factors that affect their physical and psychological health in captivity and in the wild.
- To deepen knowledge of the challenges in primate conservation, including habitat loss, illegal trafficking and climate change.
- To provide practical skills in conservation strategies and management of primate populations, through the use of scientific tools and conservation policies.
- To promote an ethical and responsible approach to primate research and management, ensuring respect for species and local communities.
- To provide a solid scientific basis for the application of strategies to improve the welfare of primates in different contexts, such as rescue and rehabilitation centres, zoos, bioparks and reintroduction projects.
- To promote an interdisciplinary vision of primate conservation and welfare, integrating knowledge of biology, ecology, ethology and social sciences.
- To train students in scientific communication and dissemination on the conservation and welfare of primates, promoting their role as professionals and agents of change in this field.
