- People with basic knowledge of the humanitarian context and global coordination mechanisms (desirable for the basic level of the course).
- People with a medical background that will help them understand the medical priorities and clinical definitions in the field, although this is not a mandatory requirement.
The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
- To understand the essential nature of emergency medical aid for people affected by armed conflicts, epidemics and natural disasters as well as those excluded from healthcare, as humanitarian crises involve large-scale health crises.
- To acquire a solid foundation of knowledge of essential preventive measures as well as how to provide the most basic medical care.
- To recognize the most essential components in the response to humanitarian emergencies and, in turn, to be able to address a diverse range of challenges and dilemmas.
- How leading humanitarian organizations achieve positive outcomes by reducing mortality, morbidity and suffering.
