The Seminari Filosofia i Gènere of the Consolidated Research Group (GRC) Creació i pensament de les dones is organizing the lecture "La democracia occidental y la posibilidad del totalitarismo" by Peter Wagner. Wagner is an ICREA research professor at the Universitat de Barcelona. He has also been a researcher at the Wissenschaftszentrum für Sozialforschung in Berlin, full professor of Sociology at the universities of Warwick and Trento, and full professor of Social and Political Theory at the Institut Europeu Universitari in Florence, Italy. His research focuses on the comparative and analytic study of different forms of social, economic, and political modernity, and the historical trajectories of modern societies. Since 2010 he has directed the European research group TRAMOD "Trajectòries de la modernitat. Comparació de varietats europees i no europees". The titles he has published include, among others, Modernity as Experience and Interpretation. A New Sociology of Modernity (Polity, 2008) and Modernity: Understanding the Present (Polity, 2012). The lecture will consider the topics of foundation and destruction in the political sphere, using Arendt's work in The Origins of TotalitarianismThe act is held as part of the V Arendtian Springs International Lecture Cycle (Primaveres arendtianes).
