Marina Bernardo Flórez, who has been a predoctoral researcher at ADHUC, will defend her doctoral thesis Representations of Identity in Chicanx Children’s Literature through Word and Image: Maya Gonzalez’s Picturebooks, directed by Dr. Rodrigo Andrés (ADHUC-Universitat de Barcelona) and Dr. Maria González Davies (Blanquerna-Universitat Ramon Llull). The thesis analyses the visual and verbal elements that contemporary Chicana author Maya Gonzalez makes use of in her picturebooks for children in order to represent diversity within the context of Chicanx children’s literature. The thesis includes fieldwork on how these picturebooks are being received within the United States educational programs.
