Next week, Barcelona will host the international meeting of the Musicality Genomics Consortium (MusicGens), a groundbreaking project that explores the relationship between genetics and musical perception. Researchers from around the world will gather from September 18 to 20 to share new findings and advance this interdisciplinary collaboration. The local organizing committee include Brainlab member Marc Via, together with Ernest Mas-Herrero and Josep Marco-Pallarés, also at the Institute of Neurosciences (UB).
The event will be preceded by a public roundtable on September 17 at the Palau de la MĂșsica Catalana, titled “The Musical Genome”, which will bring together scientists and musicians to discuss the biological foundations of musicality and how music is experienced across individuals. The event is free, but registration is required. This is a unique opportunity to witness a dialogue between science and music in one of Europeâs most beautiful concert halls.
Ahead of the event, the project was featured on Assaig General (Catalunya MĂșsica), where Gemma Marfany, Cristina Cubells and Marc Via explained that while most people enjoy music, we do so with varying intensity â differences that may, in part, be influenced by our genetic makeup.
Whether you are a lover of music, science, or both, don’t hesitate to participate in the round table discussion at the Palau de la MĂșsica or listen to the interview on Catalunya MĂșsica. You are sure to learn things that will surprise you!
