Joan Tarrida – Thesis defense

Joan completed a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the Universitat de Barcelona in 2017. He continued in research by pursuing a Master’s in Research in Behaviour and Cognition at the same institution. After finishing the master’s, he spent one year seeking funding to pursue a PhD at the Cognition and Brain Plasticity Unit (now BraCo). In 2019, he began his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Lluís Fuentemilla and Prof. Josep Marco-Pallarès.

The thesis aimed to investigate the brain correlates of how pleasant odors are processed and how they relate to human learning. The project attracted the interest of Puig S.A., an industrial partner with whom the work was carried out.

To address the thesis questions, Joan used brain-imaging techniques such as EEG and electrobulbogram (EBG) recordings. To learn the latter, he completed an internship at Karolinska Institutet.

Joan will defend her thesis this July as part of the Doctoral Programme in Cervell, Cognició i Conducta of the Universitat de Barcelona.
