Marc Ballestero – Thesis defense

Marc Ballestero-Arnau obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Barcelona and completed a Master’s degree in Research in Cognition and Behavior. He then carried out his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Toni Cunillera and Dr. Antoni Rodríguez-Fornells, supported by a UB predoctoral fellowship.

His doctoral thesis, Food-Cue Processing in Normal-weight and Obese Individuals, investigated the cognitive mechanisms through which food-related cues modulate attention, anticipation, and cue-driven behavior, as well as the extent to which these processes differ between normal-weight individuals and individuals with overweight or obesity.

To address these questions, his research combined experimental methods from cognitive neuroscience and experimental psychology, including behavioral measures and electrophysiological techniques such as EEG. Overall, his work contributed to a more precise characterization of the cognitive processes through which food cues influence behavior in obesogenic environments.
