CONDITIONS OF ACCESS TO AND USE OF THE UB'S VIRTUAL CAMPUS
TEACHING PLATFORM
This document contains the general conditions applicable to use
of the University of Barcelona's Virtual Campus. You must accept them
in order to access the Virtual Campus and use its services.
It is important that you study this document carefully, as you
will be deemed to have read and unreservedly accepted the conditions
set out below if you access the Virtual Campus and use its materials.
1.
Access to the Virtual
Campus. Responsible/proper use of usernames and passwords
Every member of the University of Barcelona (UB) community has
a personal username and a password for access to the institution's
Virtual Campus. Such access encompasses use of the content and services
made available to UB members, according to the specific profile
assigned to each of them, and is personal and non-transferable. Users
pledge to keep their password secret and are responsible for any
activity carried out by means of it or for improper use made of it by
third parties, with or without their consent. All acts performed using
a particular password will be deemed to have been carried out by the
user to whom it belongs. Users must report the loss of their password
and/or any case of unauthorized third-party access. Additionally, they
must refrain from accessing or attempting to access areas off limits to
them according to their profile.
2.
Appropriate use and
mutual respect
Users pledge to use the content and services of the UB's
Virtual Campus appropriately, in accordance with current legislation,
avoiding any activity that may be unlawful or detrimental to the rights
or interests of third parties.
Users' attitude and language in their public and private
communication with other users must be respectful, and they may not
pass on or circulate opinions or content that may be illegal,
defamatory or offensive or constitute an affront to personal values and
dignity. Users must also keep private communication secret and refrain
from making data obtained via mailing lists or public areas of the
Virtual Campus available to third parties.
Users must report any kind of breach of current law or of these
conditions they may notice to the UB's bodies, so that checks can be
undertaken and any inappropriate content modified or removed.
3.
Protection of
intellectual property rights
The structure, design and computer code of the Virtual Campus
are protected by intellectual property rights held by the UB.
Intellectual property rights over the content hosted on the Virtual
Campus correspond to its authors or to the holders of such rights, as
specified in each case. Virtual Campus users may view such content if
their profile allows them to do so, and may only use it for private and
personal purposes, which are also the only purposes for which it may be
reused unless the corresponding licence or notice for users expressly
states otherwise. Materials available via the Virtual Campus and over
which neither the UB nor its teaching staff hold intellectual property
rights are offered within the limits envisaged in current legislation
on copyright, and by virtue of a licence or authorization for their use
or of them being in the public domain.
The UB will not be liable for any breaches of intellectual
property rights committed by Virtual Campus users.
The UB places a range of content at users' disposal so that
they can make use of it and find information they require for
educational, academic, scientific or other purposes. The collective or
commercial exploitation of such content is prohibited, however.
The Virtual Campus contains links or hyperlinks that open web
pages managed by third parties unrelated to the UB. The UB is therefore
unable to guarantee and will not be liable for such web pages' content
or information, its accuracy and whether or not it is up to date.
Texts protected by intellectual property legislation may not be
uploaded to the UB's Virtual Campus without express permission from
their authors or copyright holders. Users will be personally liable for
any infringements they may commit in this respect.
4.
Proper use of services
and technological resources
Given that the Virtual Campus is intended for university
education, its services may only be used for personal purposes and
never to commercial ends. Users pledge not to use their email address
or the public areas of the Virtual Campus for commercial or advertising
purposes.
Users must not, directly or indirectly, compromise or
jeopardize the smooth running of the Virtual Campus or the shared
technological resources and IT services it involves. Likewise, they may
not prevent others from using such resources and systems properly.
5.
Veracity of personal
data
Users are responsible for ensuring that all personal data they
provide and that which is stored on the Virtual Campus is accurate and
up to date. They pledge to identify themselves and to avoid confusion
or doubt as to the origin of any statements they make or personal
opinions they express on the Virtual Campus.
6.
Protection of personal
data
The UB pledges to take the necessary security measures where
its equipment, facilities, IT systems and files are concerned, in
accordance with current regulations on the protection of personal data.
Data provided by users will only be used for teaching purposes. In
keeping with Constitutional Law 15/1999, of 13 December, on the
protection of personal data, Virtual Campus users' data will be stored
in a file created by the UB for strictly educational purposes. Tools
that enable users to modify some aspects of their data directly are
available on the Virtual Campus. Users may exercise their rights to
access, amend, challenge and cancel personal data at any time.
Accessing and using the Virtual Campus entails full, unreserved
acceptance of all the conditions included in this document.
In the event of non-compliance with these conditions, the UB
may withdraw, suspend, block or refuse to allow access to the Virtual
Campus and its services.
