XVIII, para la burgues\u00eda revolucionaria el progreso era una ley hist\u00f3rica que no s\u00f3lo justifi caba su proyecto de cambiar las leyes del Antiguo R\u00e9gimen, sino que garantizaba el \u00e9xito de esta empresa. La progresiva separaci\u00f3n, que acab\u00f3 en un enfrentamiento abierto, entre la burgues\u00eda y la Revoluci\u00f3n, origin\u00f3 una ideolog\u00eda conservadora, distinta de la tradicionalista. La defensa de un statu quo nacido de la modifi caci\u00f3n, revolucionaria o evolutiva, del Antiguo R\u00e9gimen, pero amenazado por la posible continuidad del progreso revolucionario, replante\u00f3 la valoraci\u00f3n de la fe en el progreso.
