Hiroya received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Science and Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2023. The Bachelor’s project was conducted in the Center for Sustainable Resource Science, RIKEN, where he had been a student trainee. He then completed his Master’s degree in 2025 at the same university, which had been renamed to Institute of Science Tokyo.

In his Bachelor’s project, he investigated on the mineral formation using the microfluidic device inspired by geological settings. This topic was later expanded for the research on origin of cellular life for his Master’s thesis, under the supervision of Prof. Ryuhei Nakamura and Dr. Hye-Eun Lee.

In 2025, he joined the ChemInFlow group at the University of Barcelona as a doctoral student under the supervision of Prof. Josep Puigmartí-Luis and Dr. Mario Palacios Corella. He is a student in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) – Doctoral Network GREENS.
