producen en grandes cantidades para el revestimiento de hornos, reactores, vehiculos espaciles y, en general, de los equipos que operan a altas temperaturas. Se utilizan en los procesos de obtención de metales, vidrios e incluso de otros ceramicos, tratamientos teérmicos, centrales termoeléctricas, nucleares, etc.</p> <p>La mayoria de refractarios ácidos industriales tiene composiciones cercanas al sistema binario SiO<sub>2</sub>/Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3 </sub>y se distinguen diferentes tipos segun el contenido de alúmina.</p> <p><strong>Arcilla refractaria</strong>: contiene 70-80% de SiO<sub>2</sub> i 20-30% de Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>. Consiste en vidrio de silice más mullita (minoritaria). Se trata de refractarios con buena resistencia mecánica, poco porosos (~10%) y los más economicos.
