From 1 October, the Office of Safety, Health and Environment (OSSMA), in collaboration with the Biosafety Committee of the University of Barcelona (CBSUB), opens registration for the course ‘Introduction to Biosafety’. The aim of this training is to offer a first approach to the most important aspects of biosafety and to promote the appropriate application of the basic principles and practices of biosafety and biocontainment.
Biosafety has become an increasingly important issue and, with this course, the UB aims to disseminate essential knowledge on biosafety to the university community, contributing to improving safety conditions in work and research areas.
A second course entitled ‘Use of Biological Safety Cabinets’ will be offered in November. This complementary training, which can only be taken if the previous course has been completed, will enable participants to acquire the basic knowledge to use this equipment properly. Biosafety cabinets are essential in level 2 biosafety laboratories, and a key element in ensuring biosafety in laboratories.
With these initiatives, the University of Barcelona reaffirms its commitment to training in health and safety, helping to prepare its community to face future challenges with confidence and responsibility.

All staff who work in biological laboratories or who are interested in taking this training can access the OSSMA’s Training Area to apply for the courses.
