They have to help and support each other to achieve the goal of each game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cooperative motor-skill games<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike some sports, these physical games leave competition aside and thereby become a <strong>means of interaction and cooperation that helps the participants to communicate, interrelate and socialise<\/strong>. This is a calm and relaxed moment when they can express their impressions and feelings about the experience. The conversation is accompanied by food and drink. They were created by <strong>Merche R\u00edos, a professor in the Department of Applied Didactics of the Faculty of Education<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At first, the Meetings were held with students from the Faculty of Education and people deprived of liberty. The same methodology was later applied to people with mental health problems. <strong>Since 2015, they have also been carried out with refugees and people from conflict zones<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout these years, <strong>over 8,000 students have participated in the Socio-Sports Meetings<\/strong>, shaking hands with 8,000 people deprived of liberty or with mental health problems.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-color has-text-color\">International scope<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These Meetings have had such an impact that the socio-educational model of Professor Merche R\u00edos <strong>has been replicated in other universities in Catalonia and elsewhere in Spain<\/strong>, as well as in other countries in Central and South America, like <strong>Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Cuba<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\">These activities are the seed of our \u2018COMMUNITY\u2019 project, where we hold Socio-Sports Meetings with refugees and university students, volunteers, and professionals who want to incorporate the methodology.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:75px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" id=\"methodology\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><i class=\"fas fa-gear\"><\/i> Methodology of the Socio-Sports Meetings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Socio-educational intervention<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Socio-Sports Meetings are based on a <strong>socio-educational intervention model based on cooperative physical activity<\/strong> and the service learning methodology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This intervention model helps to empower the participants and <strong>improve their social, cognitive, emotional and motor abilities<\/strong>. The \u2018COMMUNITY\u2019 project also facilitates peer interaction between people at risk of social exclusion and volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The motor-skill games use an <strong>active, participatory, democratic and transformative methodology characterised by the use of teamwork as a common thread<\/strong> to promote critical thinking, dialogue, respect and the assumption of responsibilities within the context of service learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Service learning<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Service learning is \u201can educational approach that combines learning objectives with community service<\/strong> to provide a pragmatic and progressive learning experience while meeting the needs of society\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In other words, service learning methodology is an educational practice that combines learning processes with service to the community that helps to train volunteers and turns them into agents of socialisation that promote the inclusion of refugees in society.
