The project “Parameters and strategies to increase the relevance of media and digital communication in society: curation, visualization and visibility (CUVICOM)” with code PID2021-123579OB-I00 has been funded by the MCIN / AEI / 10.13039/501100011033 / and by FEDER “A way of doing Europe”. Its duration is from September 2022 to August 2025 and the principal investigators are Javier Guallar and Mari Vállez, from the University of Barcelona.

The main objective of the CUVICOM project is to systematically analyze three strategies to increase the quality and social relevance of journalism, digital media and digital communication. These are curation, visualization and visibility.
We believe that these are three factors that increase the quality of media news products, and digital communication in general, while adding credibility to digital content and media production. The associated increase in relevance implies a greater potential to displace and counteract low-quality information and misinformation, thereby reducing polarization and making societies more inclusive.
The complexity of the current digital communication ecosystem requires interdisciplinary approaches to fully understand it. This is why we present an ambitious and interdisciplinary project, with researchers belonging to the areas of Communication and Information Sciences, and with three main lines of research and a transversal line, which allow us to bring together a significant number of researchers from different universities, both national and international.
This approach ensures, in our opinion, the addition and confrontation of perspectives, which go beyond the local and national scope, and which are necessary to be able to integrate a multifaceted understanding of the object of study.
