Dignity, Vulnerability and Disability: A Cross-Cutting Perspective

This event will be held in Spanish and English.

This international seminar brings together leading figures in law and philosophy to reflect on the relationship between human dignity, vulnerability and disability, from a transversal and critical perspective.

The event will feature keynote lectures and roundtables with internationally renowned scholars such as Gerard Quinn (University of Galway) and Jonathan Herring (University of Oxford), as well as prominent academics from Spanish and Latin American universities.

Throughout the day, participants will discuss topics such as:

  • Personhood and the social model in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

  • Vulnerability as a source of dignity.

  • The challenges disability poses to the concept of human dignity in international law and legal philosophy.

  • How to reconcile autonomy and dignity in private law.

The seminar is organised within the framework of the following research projects:

  • “Human Dignity in Legal and Moral Argumentation” (PID2022-138942NB-I00)

  • “Asset Planning Mechanisms in an Ageing Society: Vulnerability, Solidarity and Property Law” (PID2021-126857NB-I00)

  • “Age as a Factor of Protection and as a Factor of Discrimination” (PID2024-161427NB-I00)
