Recommended applicant profile

The master's degree in Sport Business Management is primarily addressed to candidates who have completed a sport-related bachelor's degree or equivalent undergraduate degree and wish to acquire further knowledge of sport business management, and those that have studied business management and wish to specialize in the management of sports businesses.
The degree has been designed to accommodate students admitted via both of these pathways: one for students with degree in physical activity and sport (such as the bachelor's degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences), and one for students with degrees in business administration and management.
In addition to applicants with knowledge of economics, business and sport, the master's degree is designed for those with degrees in technical and scientific disciplines who have an entrepreneurial interest in the sector.
This programme generally takes on a high percentage of students with backgrounds in fields related to physical activity who have no prior studies in business management. Candidates are expected to acquire this knowledge before starting the course by completing the relevant bridging subjects.

Admission requirements

In accordance with Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/29 October 2007, students must hold one of the following qualifications to access university master's degree courses:
  • An official Spanish degree.
  • A degree issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area framework that authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue.
  • A qualification from outside the framework of the European Higher Education Area. In this case, the qualification should be recognized as equivalent to an official Spanish degree. If it is not recognized, the University of Barcelona shall verify that it corresponds to a level of education that is equivalent to official Spanish degrees and that it authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue. Admission shall not, in any case, imply that prior qualifications have been recognized as equivalent to a Spanish master's degree and does not confer recognition for any purposes other than that of admission to the master's degree course.

Specific requirements

Applications will be accepted from any candidate in possession of the necessary qualifications to enrol in a university master's degree in Spain, according to the current regulations. Students must also be able to demonstrate a good level of Spanish and English (equivalent to B1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
Students with no previous training in business administration and management, and specifically candidates with backgrounds in physical activity and sport, must complete the following bridging subjects:
  • Basic Accounting (2.5 credits)
  • Organizational Design and Managerial Skills (2.5 credits)
  • Financing of Sport (2.5 credits)

Candidates that have already acquired this knowledge through the completion of an undergraduate or bachelor's degree in business administration and management or related areas are not required to take the bridging subjects.
Once the admission period has closed, the Master's Degree Committee will evaluate each successful candidate's prior training to ensure that they have a minimum level of knowledge equivalent to the bridging subjects (in which case they will not be required). Successful candidates may therefore be asked to complete one or more of the bridging subjects if it considered necessary.
Students required to take bridging subjects may complete during the academic year alongside the standard master's degree subjects.
