PHYLOGENOMICS AND POPULATION GENOMICS: INFERENCE AND APPLICATIONS (2021-2022) |
Learning objectives:
- Gain experience in the theory and practice of phylogenomic inference and population genomic analyses and their application to infer species trees, estimate divergence times, identify species boundaries, and reconstruct population histories; and infer gene flux, population mixing and introgression, and identify genomic regions under selection.
- Understand the theoretical basis, assumptions and limitations of analytical methods for phylogenomics and population genomics.
- Become capable of manipulating and managing high-throughput sequencing data, and of applying selected specialized computer and bioinformatics tools.
Recommended applicant profiles and admission requirements:
Degree and diploma holders primarily in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, biomedicine, environmental sciences, marine sciences, bioinformatics, medicine, pharmacy or chemistry.
Admission for applicants not holding a degree qualification:
Students who are not university graduates may be admitted on these courses. These students will be eligible for a university extension course certificate.Information regarding the entry requirements in this case can be obtained from the course coordinators.
