The Alumni Wall

A commitment to the future

Alumni engaged with new generations

The Alumni Wall recognises former students of the University of Barcelona’s Faculty of Economics and Business who support new generations of students so they have better opportunities – individuals who champion the role of the public university system they benefited from as a guarantor of social progress, and people who know from experience that shared leadership is needed to tackle shared challenges. In short, the Wall is a space for everyone who believes the future is something we all help build – with no exceptions – and that together we can go even farther.

The Faculty of Economics and Business wants to maintain ties with alumni to get them involved in tackling challenges facing the university they were once part of.

To pursue this goal, on 15 February 2016, the Alumni Wall project was presented, with the collaboration of the Board of Trustees and UB Alumni, the official alumni association of the University of Barcelona.

The Alumni Wall is a new university fundraising initiative undertaken by the Faculty of Economics and Business to obtain supplementary funding so it can continue to pursue projects aimed at improving the public service offered by the University.

The goal is to generate a sense of involvement and attract support from over 50,000 alumni of the Faculty to fund projects that would otherwise be impossible to complete. Projects funded this way are related to three main lines of action:

  • Internationalization and attracting talent
  • Funding research and trainee researchers
  • Improving infrastructure and equipment

The minimum donation is €50, and donations can be multi-year (up to three years). The full amount of each donation will be used to fund the programme selected by the donor when he or she completes the donation form.

As an expression of gratitude, the Faculty will have the name, programme completed and graduation year of each former student who makes a donation of at least €130 printed on a plaque that will be placed on one of the Faculty’s interior walls.

The name of each alumnus who make a minimum donation of €530 will be printed on a plaque that will be mounted on one of the chairs in the Ernest Lluch Graduation Hall at the Faculty.

1. Who can have a plaque?

Any alumnus of the Faculty who has completed a degree and makes a donation of at least €130.

Memorial plaques can also be made for alumni. In this case, the donor should indicate this in the “Additional information” section of the donation form.

2. What size is the plaque?

28.5 cm x 5.5 cm

3. What information appears on the plaque?

Each plaque bears the full name of the alumnus, the programme he or she completed at the Faculty, and the graduation year. Only one person’s name may appear on a plaque.

Information concerning the degree and graduation year is obtained from the records of the University of Barcelona.

4. After a donation has been made, when is the plaque placed on the Wall?

Although the list of donors is updated monthly, plaques are printed in batches of 50 units.

The person concerned will be sent an email indicating the plaque number and the date when it will be placed on the Alumni Wall.

5. In what order are the plaques placed?

Plaques are ordered by decade, and within each decade by the year when alumni completed their first degree at the Faculty (in relation to the other alumni in the same group). If two or more alumni completed degrees in the same year, their plaques will be placed in alphabetical order by surname.

6. Can information be added to a plaque after it has been placed?

If a new degree must be added to a plaque after it has been placed, the donor may request that a new plaque be printed. There is a €30 charge for this service.

7. Is it necessary to be a member of UB Alumni to make a donation?

No.

8. Are there any tax benefits for donations to the Alumni Wall project?

Yes. For more information, see the “Make a donation” section.
