My experience with the Mediterranean Nutrition and Gastronomy course in Barcelona exceeded my expectations of any academic programs abroad. This course gave me an immersive experience in the Mediterranean culture that I never even knew I wanted. The experiential teaching\/ learning experience that this course provides is what sets it apart from most other college courses. The most effective components of this course were the discussion-based lectures and the immersive experiences throughout Barcelona. Rather than being talked at for a grueling 90-minute class period, my peers and I had the opportunity to engage in conversations where we shared our own experiences, asked questions, and most importantly, inspired our own critical thinking. The engaging experiences, such as the market visit and cooking class, bridged the gap between the course content and our lived experiences in Barcelona. Place-based education is so often overlooked in traditional education institutions which made these experiences so much more meaningful.\nEven though my time in Barcelona was cut short, I am so appreciative of my opportunity to experience Barcelona from such a unique perspective and to make lasting memories.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Mediterranean Nutrition & Gastronomy was by far my favorite class that I took while studying abroad in Barcelona! It was interesting and fun to learn about the traditional Mediterranean food culture, through group conversation and one of a kind experiences outside of the classroom. Taking a class at the UB campus was such a great decision because I got to explore new parts of the city and meet awesome students and faculty. Learning all about food gave me an entirely new perspective on the city of Barcelona, realizing how it is a huge part of the city\u2019s culture, which helped me to adjust to living in that new environment. While taking this class, I learned how to shop, cook and eat like a local, which I took home with me when the course was over! Mediterranean Nutrition & Gastronomy pushed my study abroad experience to a whole new level, opening doors for me to try new things and immerse myself in a very important part of Barcelona\u2019s culture.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Learning about local businesses, restaurants, and local food culture had never been so fun! This course gave me a great insight into the world of business of food and I can\u2019t think of a better place to explore this topic than in a city like Barcelona, where food options and businesses are infinite.
