The research focuses on the efforts of Vic City Council to carry out the geometric plan of the city in accordance with the 1846 royal order of the Spanish government, which very few councils complied with. In addition to drawing up the plan, it was necessary to draw the proposals for street alignments as well as the opening of new roads. In the case of Vic, the tensions that arose between professionals to carry out these types of projects are exposed, since even though the city council awarded the map project to the prestigious Barcelona architect Josep Casademunt, the figure of a land surveyor Tomàs Sanmartí, rejected by the architects, appears. In any case, it took six years and two public exhibitions, full of allegations, for the map to be approved in 1852. It is an example of the difficulties that had to be faced in the initial phases of town planning cartography in contemporary Catalonia and Spain
