SUMMARY:Knowledge vs Attitudes
DESCRIPTION:Kevin Mulligan (University of Geneva)What is the relation betwe
en knowledge and attitudes?&nbsp\;On one view\, knowledge is just a heavil
y qualified attitude\, a type of belief.&nbsp\;I argue that various featu
res of attitudes &ndash\; doxastic\, conative and affective &ndash\; show
that knowledge cannot be any sort of attitude.&nbsp\;Rather\, attitudes
are reactions to what we know or seem to know. Attitudes typically displa
y correctness conditions\, polarity and degrees. Knowledge displays&nbsp\
;none of these features. But knowledge\, like attitudes\, may be propositi
 onal or non-propositional.
