SUMMARY:Paradoxical Desires
DESCRIPTION:Ethan Jerzak I present a paradoxical combination of desires. I
show why it&#39\;s paradoxical\, and consider ways of responding to the pa
radox. I show that we&#39\;re saddled with an unappealing disjunction: eit
her we reject the possibility of the case\, or we revise some bit of class
ical logic. I argue that denying the possibility of the case is unmotivate
d on any reasonable way of thinking about mental content. So\, I argue\, t
he best response is a non-classical one\, according to which certain desir
es are neither determinately satisfied nor determinately not satisfied. Th
us\, theorizing about mental attitudes can help constrain the space of pos
sibilities for adequate solutions to semantic paradoxes more generally.
