I am a PhD student working at the University of Barcelona under the supervision of Carl Hoefer and José Diez. My research is about causal inference in the social and biomedical sciences. I am interested in what type of conclusions different types of research methods (RCT's, observational methods, instrumental variables) allow. I am also looking into the use of causal language in scientific writing. My broader areas of interest are philosophy of science, philosophy of physics and metaphysics.

Before coming to Barcelona, I obtained my BA in Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam (with a specialization in philosophy of mathematics) and my MSc in Logic at the Institute for Logic, Language and Information (ILLC) of the University of Amsterdam. During my master’s, I specialized in philosophy of time, philosophy of probability, philosophy of quantum mechanics and philosophy of information.

Next to philosophy, I have a passion for science communication. In between my master’s and this PhD, I have worked as a science journalist, making podcasts and writing articles for the Dutch newspaper NRC amongst others.

My PhD project is funded by the Barcelona Institute of Analytic Philosophy (BIAP) which has received a ‘María de Maeztu’ grant for excelling research institutes in Spain.
