The project incorporates four specific objectives:

1. To study perceptual appearances, addressing various thematic axes: (a) epistemic dependence relations between perceptual propositions and sense data; (b) cognitive penetrability and modularity of the mind; (c) phenomenal character of experience; (d) relativity of epistemic perspectives.

2. Analysis of certain non-perceptive appearances, intuitions, from a double perspective: (a) critical examination of its record by surveys carried out by demoscopic philosophy; (b) a specific case study, which will entail reconstructing Moore’s argument against the “naturalistic fallacy”.

3. Various tasks concerning the philosophy of art: (a) to contribute to a characterization of the fiction/nonfiction distinction; (b) to define the concept of type, compatibly with identifying some artistic works with types; (c) to identify a specific modality of comic effect present in certain fictional works.

Total budget: € 46.875

The main general thematic areas of the project are epistemology, philosophy of language, philosophy of cognitive sciences and philosophy of values.
