15th Summer School on Medicines (SSM15)

The IBUB awarded four travel grants to support registration, attendance, and accommodation expenses for four early-career researchers from the institute who took part in the 15th edition of the Summer School on Medicines (SSM15).

The 15th Summer School on Medicines (SSM15) was held in Montreal, Canada, from July 5 to 11, 2025.

The SSM15 curriculum covered the entire process of drug research and development, from target identification to market access. Participants attended interactive classes, case studies, a visit to a translational medicine research center, and a full-day networking event with experts from pharmaceutical companies based in the Montreal area, one of the most dynamic regions in Canada in this field.

Discovering a new drug is a complex process involving a wide range of highly specialized professionals from both public institutions and industry, including biologists, chemists, clinicians, economists, and regulatory affairs specialists. Since 2009, the Summer School on Medicines has become a benchmark training program in this area.

SSM15 offered a unique 50-hour training program focused on drug discovery, development, and market access within a multicultural framework in the vibrant setting of Montreal.

Over the course of one intensive week, participants engaged in lively presentations and direct interactions with faculty members, including case studies and workshops with industry representatives. The program addressed the entire value chain of medicines—from idea to market. The faculty consisted of leading experts in their respective fields, contributing to one of the most innovative and targeted training programs currently available in drug discovery and development.

Since its inception in 2009, the SSM has brought together over 60 students, professors, and industry professionals each year, offering a unique opportunity to explore the drug discovery process in a multicultural context—with participants from Canada, France, Spain, Brazil, and other countries.
