Symposium of the Purine and Pyrimidine Society

The 21st Symposium of the Purine and Pyrimidine Society (PPS) took place in Barcelona from June 24 to 27 at the Hotel Occidental Atenea Mar. The event brought together researchers and experts from around the world to share the latest advances in purine and pyrimidine metabolism, signaling, and therapeutic applications.

The symposium was organized by members of the Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona (IBUB) and the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR). A key highlight of the event was the appointment of Dr. Marçal Pastor-Anglada, Director of the IBUB, as the new President of the PPS—a recognition of his long-standing contribution to the field.

Over the course of four days, the conference featured a rich program of keynote lectures, oral communications, and poster sessions covering a broad range of scientific topics. One of the highlights was the awarding of prizes for the best oral presentations and posters, celebrating the high-quality work of both early-career researchers and established scientists.

The 2025 edition marked a significant milestone for the PPS community, reinforcing international collaboration and driving innovation in purine and pyrimidine research.
