AI is increasingly integrated in many daily life aspects, and it is  regarded as a transforming technology that has become an essential  pillar of the activity of the research institutes at the University of  Barcelona.\u00a0<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim of the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Conference of UB research institutes, under the title <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ub.edu\/portal\/documents\/11964671\/0\/Di%CC%81ptic_IA_esborranyFINAL_MOD_5.pdf\/8c8d2abf-0683-4174-240c-8d1dd2aef0aa\">\u201cInteligencia artificial (IA): Investigaci\u00f3n y sociedad\u201d<\/a>\n (Artificial Intelligence: Research and Society) is to address the \nscientific impact and potential of AI in different areas of science. The\n conference will take place on 13 February, in the <em>Aula Magna<\/em> at the UB\u2019s Historic Building, from 9.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. This session will be live-streamed on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ub.edu\/ubtv\/video\/iii-jornada-instituts-de-recerca-ub-ia-2024\">UBtv<\/a>.\n In the afternoon, sessions will continue after 4.00 p.m., in the \nAuditorium of the Barcelona Centre of Contemporary Culture (CCCB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference will be opened by the Rector, Joan Gu\u00e0rdia, in a \nceremony with the participation of Professor Manel Sanrom\u00e0, president of\n CIVICAi, and Professor Meritxell Sim\u00f3, director of the UB\u2019s Institute \nfor Research on Medieval Cultures (IRCVM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Artificial intelligence: from biodiversity to cosmology<\/strong> &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This meeting is a great space for exploring the current trends and \nfindings in the field of AI. Besides promoting a cross-disciplinary \ndebate and reflection on AI, the forum allows participants to find \ninnovative projects led by UB-specific research institutes that apply \nthis discipline to face complex challenges in research, thus generate \nsignificant advances for society. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Xavier Jarque, director of the UB\u2019s Institute of Mathematics (IMUB),  will chair the session with the participation of Antigoni  Kaliontzopoulou, from the UB\u2019s Biodiversity Research Institute (IRBio),  with the lecture \u201cLagartijas, tortugas y plantas en la lupa de la IA:  aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico en el estudio de la biodiversidad\u201d (Lizards,  turtles and plants under AI\u2019s eye: automatic learning in the study of  biodiversity). <strong>Josep Francesc Abril, from the Institute of Biomedicine  (IBUB)<\/strong>, will focus on \u201cDeus ex machina: Inteligencia Artificial y  Biolog\u00eda Computacional\u201d; Sandra Acosta, from the Institute of  Neurosciences (UBneuro), will give the lecture \u201cVariability vs Phenotype  in brain organoids: AI is the question\u201d; Ra\u00fal Jim\u00e9nez, from the  Institute of Cosmos Sciences (ICCUB), will talk about \u201cCosmolog\u00eda sin  modelos: IA para entender el cosmos y las leyes de la Naturaleza\u201d, and  Jordi Vitri\u00e0, from IMUB, will give the lecture \u201cIA \u2013 de la teor\u00eda a la  pr\u00e1tica\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Education, archaeology and civil responsibility <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The session chaired by Maria Pau Sand\u00edn, director of the Research \nInstitute on Education (IRE-UB), will include the participation of \nAlbert Bruix, from the Institute of Theoretical and Computational \nChemistry (IQTCUB), who will give the lecture \u201cData Science y Machine \nLearning: una nueva era para la qu\u00edmica computacional\u00bb and Dimitri \nMarinelli, from the Research Institute of Complex Systems (UBICS), who \nwill talk about \u00abAI from and for complex systems\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cristina Galv\u00e1n, from IRE-UB, will give the lecture \u201cEducaci\u00f3n e \ninteligencia artificial: un di\u00e1logo inspirado por Durkheim\u00bb, and Xavier \nRubio, from the UB\u2019s Institute of Archaeology (IAUB) will give \n\u201cEstableciendo lazos entre pasado y futuro: usos de la IA en la \ninvestigaci\u00f3n arqueol\u00f3gica\u201d. The researchers Filippo Contesi and Patrick\n Connolly, from the Barcelona Institute of Analytical Philosophy (BIAP),\n are the authors of the lecture \u201cThe Ethics and Aesthetics of Writing in\n the Age of AI\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u00f2nia Estrad\u00e9, from the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology \n(IN2UB), will talk about \u201cAI for nanoscale spectroscopies\u201d, and Joan \nCalzada, from the Barcelona Economics Analysis Team (BEAT), will comment\n on \u201c\u00bfQui\u00e9n elige lo que leemos? Algoritmos para recomendar noticias\u201d. \nThe first part of the conference will be closed by Eva Andr\u00e9s Aucejo and\n M\u00f3nica Navarro-Michel, from the TransJus Research Institute, who will \ngive the lecture \u201cImplicaciones jur\u00eddicas de la inteligencia artificial:\n regulaci\u00f3n global, derechos de autor y responsabilidad civil\u201d. The \nrector\u2019s delegate for research institutes, Merc\u00e8 Pall\u00e0s, eill close the \nmorning session of the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visit the CCCB exhibition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the afternoon, the vice-rector for Research, Jordi \nGarcia-Fern\u00e1ndez, and the director of ICCUB, Xavier Luri, together with a\n CCCB representative, will present the last session at the Auditorium of\n the CCCB.
