Abstract:
Lipid nanoparticles became popular with the launch of Covid vaccines and are now part of the lexicon used by general society. Yet not all the so-called “lipid nanoparticles” are, in rigor, particles! These systems have been thoroughly investigated in various controlled drug release studies, owing to their physicochemical properties, non-toxicity and cost effectiveness. Provided that they are produced from generally recognised as safe materials, their safety profile is automatically granted. However, not only their chemical composition plays a significant role in their behaviour in vitro and in vivo. What parameters should be considered in preclinical and clinical quality assessment of lipid nanoparticles for drug delivery? Some of these parameters are expected to be discussed in this seminar.
