{"id":46990,"date":"2024-06-20T12:30:28","date_gmt":"2024-06-20T10:30:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ub.edu\/in2ub\/?p=46990"},"modified":"2024-06-20T13:36:04","modified_gmt":"2024-06-20T11:36:04","slug":"the-smart-mobile-and-energy-efficient-greenhouse-gas-sensor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ub.edu\/in2ub\/the-smart-mobile-and-energy-efficient-greenhouse-gas-sensor\/","title":{"rendered":"The smart, mobile and energy-efficient greenhouse gas sensor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A smart greenhouse gas sensor, sensitive and selective enough to offer a step change in the accurate and agile monitoring needed for evidence-based policies that tackle climate change, has been developed.<\/p>\n<p>As climate change increases the risk of extreme weather events, there is a pressing need to monitor the contributory greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane.<\/p>\n<p>While the emissions monitoring systems used by many national agencies are highly sensitive \u2013 able to distinguish between different atmospheric gases \u2013 they tend to be complex, bulky and expensive. Consequently, they are employed chiefly as static reference points, installed in only a few specific locations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo offer a more comprehensive picture you would need a significant number of such emissions monitoring systems, covering large areas,\u201d according to Albert Romano-Rodriguez (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ub.edu\/in2ub\/grup-de-recerca\/micro-and-nanotechnology-and-nanoscopies-for-electronic-and-electrophotonic-devices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Micro and Nanotechnology and nanoscopies for Electronic and Electrophotonic Devices (MIND))<\/a>\u00a0project coordinator of the NEOGAS project, which was funded by the Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie Actions programme.<\/p>\n<p>To increase the options available to authorities and experts, NEOGAS has developed a proof of concept for a low-energy gas sensing device which will leverage internet of things (IoT) functionality for forecast modelling.<\/p>\n<p>CORDIS Source &#8211; Results in Brief article: <a href=\"https:\/\/cordis.europa.eu\/article\/id\/451836-the-smart-mobile-and-energy-efficient-greenhouse-gas-sensor?WT.mc_id=exp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A smart greenhouse gas sensor, sensitive and selective enough to offer a step change in the accurate and agile monitoring needed for evidence-based policies that tackle climate change, has been developed.
