Project: “Challenges in the prediction of biological invasions: understanding the interaction of species traits and the environment” (PID2023-150807NA-I00) funded by MICIU/AEI (10.13039/501100011033) and by FEDER, EU.
Biological invasions are a growing problem, but predicting which species will become invasive and which areas will be susceptible to invasion remains a challenge. Despite the advances made, it is still not sufficiently understood how species traits and the environment interact during the different phases of the invasion process. This project aims to deepen this knowledge to refine invasion risk predictions, combining global bird distribution data, molecular phylogenetics and advanced statistical and ecological analyses.
Eligibility requirements and merits to be assessed
Candidates must have a university degree, preferably in a related scientific discipline, such as Biology, Environmental Sciences or similar.
The following will be particularly valued:
Previous experience in database management.
Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial data processing.
Proficiency in programming languages applied to data analysis, such as R, Python or SQL.
Knowledge of species distribution models and ecological niche analysis.
Job description
A 16-month full-time employment contract is offered, with a planned start date of September 15, 2025 and a gross annual salary of €33,545.30.
Main tasks
Research, review and extraction of information on biological traits and geographical distribution of fauna, from bibliographic sources and specialized portals.
Management, debugging and maintenance of scientific databases.
Development and application of code for the statistical analysis of spatial environmental data in languages such as R or Python.
Application procedure
Interested persons must submit their official application and attach their curriculum vitae through the Human Resources portal of the University of Barcelona, following the instructions that you will find in the following link:
