In an SRP, continuous assessment is essential. It involves evaluating the responses given to the questions being studied, the relevance of the questions themselves, and the answers found—even when it’s unclear whether they fully address the issues raised. Assessment is part of the inquiry, study, and research process. For this reason, it should not fall solely under the responsibility of the teaching team. It must be shared with the student groups.
To support this, it is useful to organise regular sharing sessions (either in person or via virtual platforms), where each group presents the answers they have developed, the new questions that have emerged, and discusses possible next steps collectively.
That said, the teaching team remains responsible for ensuring the process moves forward appropriately and for managing student participation. They also provide feedback and guidance throughout the inquiry. Even if the teachers are not the main assessors, a word of encouragement or a suggestion from them often has a greater impact than when it comes from fellow students.
