4. The problem of time
1 / 4
Can the duration of an SRP be shortened?

At any point, as teachers, we can accelerate the process. What takes the most time in an SRP is the search for answers to the questions that have emerged, the collection and processing of data, and the discussions to evaluate the responses and decide how to move forward. To speed things up, we can adopt a more directive approach—“closing” certain questions, providing or facilitating access to pre-established answers, or asking students to study a document that helps them formulate responses more quickly.

It’s worth noting, however, that shortening the inquiry process does not necessarily mean accelerating student learning. But it can help recover a session where the questioning remained too open or too much time was spent on research compared to what was originally planned.
