Historically, Ramon Llull’s work has been published on several occasions. The same work, such as the Llibre de les bèsties [Book of Beasts], for example, has had multiple versions depending on the editing criteria applied. It is a way of transcoding Llull, of transmuting his work. If we consider that these versions can be understood as translations of the medieval original, it is possible to think that the editor operates with similar processes to those applied in interlinguistic translations. In this article, we try to apply what has been said about translation in Optimality Theory to the updated edition of medieval texts.
