Information for students on temporary stay (2026-2027)

Every academic year, the University of Barcelona (UB) welcomes a large number of students from other universities who wish to study part of their studies on a temporary stay.

These students can undertake a temporary stay of one or, at most, two semesters within the same academic year, through an international exchange program (Erasmus+, Global Mobility or others) or as a free mover.

If you are interested in a temporary stay at the University of Barcelona, you can refer to these pages for the information and documents required.

How to do a temporary stay at the UB

This is a summary of the steps you must follow to carry out a temporary stay at the UB.

  1. Check with your home university whether there is a student exchange agreement with the UB: Erasmus+ (in its different modalities), Global (in its different modalities), Coimbra Group and CHARM-EU, or the Study Abroad programmes. If there is no student exchange agreement with your university, you can carry out a temporary stay through the Individual Application modality.
  2. Be selected and nominated by your university to participate in the corresponding exchange programme, or authorised by your home institution, to undertake a temporary stay at the UB.
  3. Complete and submit the UB online acceptance application form.
  4. Send your online acceptance application, signed and stamped by a responsible person at your university, together with the required documentation, to the international mobility coordinator of the UB faculty/school where you wish to study.
  5. Once accepted, start arranging your accommodation in Barcelona and purchase medical, accident, and repatriation insurance that covers your entire stay. Also find out about any necessary legal procedures, if applicable, before arriving and once in Barcelona.
  6. When you are already in Barcelona, go to the UB centre where you will study to formalise your arrival at the UB.
  7. You must enrol in your courses at the secretary’s office of your UB centre.
