Prof. G\u00f3mez-Serrano holds a double appointment between University of Barcelona (as Investigador Distinguido) and Brown University (as Visiting Professor) since 2020. Before that, he was at Princeton University: first as Instructor (2013-2016) and later promoted to Assistant Professor and appointed Director of Graduate Studies (2016-2020).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His research interests are analysis, spectral geometry, partial differential equations (PDE) arising in fluid mechanics, and computer-assisted proofs applied to those equations. A fundamental role in his research has come from having accurate numerics together with a deep understanding of the regularity theory. He has been especially successful in the interplay between rigorous computer calculations and traditional mathematics, leading to computer-assisted proofs in PDE. Lately, he has also been investigating research directions connected to machine learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His research has been published in journals such as the Annals of Mathematics, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Duke Mathematical Journal and has been sponsored by agencies such as the US National Science Foundation and the Simons Foundation. He has recently been awarded an ERC Starting Grant (ERC-StG-852741-CAPA)<\/a> and an NSF CAREER Grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has been honoured with the \u201cAntonio Valle\u201d Prize, the \u201cVicent Caselles\u201d Prize (best young Spanish applied mathematician and best young Spanish mathematician), and the Princeton Junior Faculty Teaching award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Claudia Garcia Lopez <\/a>is a postdoctoral researcher at University of Barcelona associated to the ERC-St CAPA leaded by Javier G\u00f3mez Serrano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, she was a postdoctoral researcher at University of Granada supervised by Juan Soler. From September 2016 to October 2020 she was a Ph.D. student in cotutelle between the University of Granada (Spain) and University of Rennes 1 (France), funded by a national Spanish FPU grant (ref. FPU15\/04094). Her two advisors were Juan Soler and Taoufik Hmidi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her research focuses on the analysis of relative equilibria in Partial Differential Equations. More particularly, she studies steady patterns in some incompressible fluid models such as the Euler equations, the quasi-geostrophic shallow water equations or the quasi-geostrophic equations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Jaemin Park <\/a>comes from Seoul, Republic of Korea, where he did his undergraduate studies in mathematics. In May 2021, he finished his PhD at the Georgia Institute of Technology with the thesis “On the stationary and uniformly-rotating solutions of active scalar equations” under the supervision of Dr. Yao Yao. His research interests are fluid dynamics and nonlinear PDEs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 31st of July 2022 he is a Postdoctoral researcher at the Departement Mathematik und Informatik, Universit\u00e4t Basel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Eduardo Garc\u00eda-Juarez (postdoc 2020-2021)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eduardo Garc\u00eda-Ju\u00e1rez<\/a> completed his studies in Industrial Engineering and Mathematics at Universidad de Sevilla in 2014. Later he finished his PhD thesis titled Global Regularity for Incompressible Fluid Interfaces<\/em> under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Francisco Gancedo (Universidad de Sevilla and IMUS). From August 2018 to July 2020, he was a Hans Rademacher Instructor of Mathematics at University of Pennsylvania, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Robert M. Strain, after which he joined the “CAPA” team. Since September 2021 he is a MSCA Research Fellow at University of Barcelona.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Joel Dahne <\/a>is a PhD student in mathematics at Uppsala University under the supervision of Jordi-Llu\u00eds Figueras (Uppsala University), Javier G\u00f3mez Serrano (Brown University and Universitat de Barcelona) and Warwick Tucker (Monash University). His research interests include fluid mechanics, spectral geometry, computer algebra and computer assisted proofs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Gonzalo Cao-Labora<\/strong> is a PhD student in mathematics at MIT under the supervision of Gigliola Staffilani. Previously he did his a double degree in Mathematics and Physics Engineering at UPC \u2013 CFIS, and spent the year 2019-2020 at Princeton writing his senior thesis (which was awarded the 2020 Emmy Noether Prize) under the supervision of Javier G\u00f3mez-Serrano. He is currently interested in singularities for Euler and Navier-Stokes, as well as dispersive equations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Jia Shi<\/strong> is a PhD student in mathematics at Princeton University under the supervision of Charles Fefferman and Javier G\u00f3mez Serrano. She will defend her thesis titled Integrodifferential equations for fluids in two dimensions<\/em> on May 2022, and after that start as a CLE Moore Instructor at MIT. Her main interests are fluid dynamics, specifically the Euler and SQG equations, as well as the Muskat problem.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
